NaNoWriMo

If you ask a fellow writer if they are going to NaNoWriMo, the answer is usually an emphatic YES. It seems that  the National Novel Writing Month is a rite of passage for new writers and a reminder of what they love to seasoned writers.

In just a few days the writing event of the year begins. NaNoWriMo is a program, a contest of sorts, that arouses the writer in you and encourages you to complete a 50,000 word novel in a mere 30 days. It begins on November 1, and ends at midnight on November 30. During your 30 day period you begin to write and complete a brand new story. Each day you can update your word count and post excerpts of your work for others to read. You can join write-ins with other Nano participants in your area or you can write alone. It doesn't matter how you do it ... as long as you write. If you write 50,000 words of fiction by midnight, local time, November 30th, you can upload your novel for official verification. Not only will you be added to Nano's  Winner’s Page and receive a winner’s certificate and web badge, but you my friend will have a novel.

As timid as I have become about my writing, I have decided to throw my hat in the ring. I signed up for NaNoWriMo and have challenged myself to complete it. This is definitely going to be an interesting journey. I am the world's best procrastinator and I have the innate ability to leave things unfinished. Nano, however changes your way of thinking and your bad habits and pushes you to be the best writer you can be. So come and join me and thousands of other novelists for NaNoWriMo and let the writing begin.

My Nano Novel Profile:

Synopsis: Private Ayla

Ayla’s life is finally taking shape, even if her body isn’t. She loves sharing her one bedroom apartment with her cat Gerry, the only male sleeping in her bed. She no longer cringes when the phone rings at work (you would too if you had to answer with Wydem, Wydem, Benefield, Hawthorne & Golden). Living in a bustling city makes it hard to get noticed but Ayla has faith that will change. That is until she gets a call from her hometown, forcing her to return to the very place she thought she would never escape. Once her feet hit that Alabama soil Ayla’s life gets turned upside down and pulled inside out. She is left reeling, wondering how she allowed Matt - or better yet, his ghost - to lead her on such a wild journey. Ayla has gone from being a New York secretary, getting coffee & typing, to doing amateur detective work, crawling on dead rats and dodging bullets. For Ayla, private takes on a brand new meaning.
