It's all about the books

It's all about the books!

Being an avid reader I find myself watching people and wondering if they are readers too. I watch their movements and expressions and try to figure out who their favorite author would be or their favorite genre. Sometimes I wish I could sneak a peek at some of my favorite writers libraries and see what lands they like to get transported to or who they secretly become when they read. I can't help but feel that there is something magical about a shelf full of books.

I have tons of books. So many that my husband just rolls his eyes when he sees more come through the door. It isn't that he begrudges me my hobby, merely that we are running out of room for bookshelves to house them all. I have friends who love to read and I'm thrilled that they're interested in what I have on my shelves, but I can never bring myself to share with them. It's like my books were created for only me. They are some of my most prized possessions. They are my doorways, my escapes, my little piece of heaven in a busy world.

Here is a sneak peek at my bookshelf. Enjoy!

  1. Books are phenomenal. This is something I hold in the utmost importance, myself. And it's like... meditation, when you truly love a book you're no longer reading it, but actively living it.
The other thing I feel about reading is that a book doesn't have to be "good" to be your favourite. For example, I've read a lot of great books, well written, well rated, very well rounded books that have made me a better person by sharing experiences that I might never have thought about before.... but my favourite book of all time is a Stephen King novel. It doesn't offer anything, really... but I've read it a hundred and 50 times at least, and it's just one of those things. I use it to defrag. No matter what is happening in my life, the words on those pages will never change. They will always be there for me.

It's nice to hear that people still feel this way about books.

  2. I know how you feel, books are at the center of our house, literally and figuratively, the room at the center, the heart is a library and books just spread out from there, all three members of our household are committed bibliophiles. I am always curious about what others are reading.
lovely blog, I have enjoyed reading.

Thank you for the compliment. My husband doesn't read like I do and he doesn't understand the importance of books. The world can take your possessions, your livelihood, but a book once read is with you forever and can never be taken from you. Cheesy, I know ... but books have never let me down when the outside world has.

So sorry for the delay is replying to your comment. I get lost in my books too. I take on the role of the main character and cry when they cry, laugh when they laugh. I know it's odd to some, but a good book is easy to get caught up in. I find that reading eases my mind when I'm stressed. Well ... that and a glass of wine.
